Permits and insurance

  • Town film permit. New Jersey has no single statewide film permit. Many towns require one even for private property, and each sets its own fee, lead time and filming hours. Once you book, we tell you the town and its permit office and help you file.
  • Plan for two insurance certificates. One names the property owner as additional insured, with at least $1,000,000 general liability. Where the town requires it, a second names the town.
  • Lead time. Apply at least a week ahead. Police, street parking or road use can take longer.

New Jersey film tax credit

Qualified film productions can earn a New Jersey tax credit of 35 percent of qualified spending, or 30 percent for spending tied to locations within 30 miles of Times Square, which includes most of Bergen County. The program is run by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. Confirm eligibility with them before you budget for it.
